True Wisdom

Wisdom is hard to find, especially in the world that we are living in today. Doing what's right is a conscious decision you have to make thousands of times each day. I fail every day, but I'm trying to find true wisdom so that I can make the right decisions for myself and for my son.
The best place to start in searching out wisdom is the Bible. Proverbs, specifically.

Proverbs 2:1-9
"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide [store up] my commandments with thee;
So that thou incline [turn] thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her [wisdom] as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou understand the fear [awe/reverence] of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler [shield] to them that walk uprightly.
He keepeth the paths of judgment [justice], and preserveth the way of [builds a hedge about] his saints [faithful ones].
Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path."

My Life Application Bible explains it like this:
"Wisdom is both a God-given gift and the fruit of an energetic search. Wisdom's starting point is God and his revealed Word, the source of "knowledge and understanding". In that sense, wisdom is God's gift to us. But he gives it only to those who earnestly seek it. The pathway to wisdom is strenuous. When we are on it, we discover that true wisdom is God's and that we cannot create it by our own efforts. But because God's wisdom is hidden from the rebellious and foolish, it takes effort to find it and use it.
We gain wisdom through a constant process of growing. First, we must trust and honor God. Second, we must realize that the Bible reveals God's wisdom to us. Third, we must make a lifelong series of right choices. Fourth, when we make sinful or mistaken choices, we must learn from our errors and recover. People don't develop all aspects of wisdom at one. For example, some people have more insight than discretion (the ability to tell right from wrong); others have more knowledge than common sense. But we can pray for all aspects of wisdom and take the steps to develop them."

Wisdom cannot come from the world, so if you are searching in different places for the truth, you will not find it outside of God's Holy Word. Open up a Bible and let us search for God's perfect wisdom together.
